Columbia 1893 Silverplate Pattern was designed for the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair celebrating Christopher Columbus 1492 Voyage to the New World 400 years earlier. Considered extremely desirable because of its unique historical significance The Columbus pattern created in 1892 was manufactured for only 20 years. The Columbus pattern was specifically designed to be featured at the 1893 World’s Fair Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, Ill. Described as (Exuberant Art Nouveau) with roccoco flourishes and shells, fish like scales and swoops.
